The first high school football weekend of the season has arrived.
Dozens of teams from across the Bay Area are about to kick off the year with games scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The Week 1 lineup features De La Salle — the Bay Area News Group’s top-ranked team — playing host to Florida powerhouse Lakeland on Friday and second-ranked Archbishop Riordan opening at home in San Francisco against Oakland heavyweight McClymonds, ranked 10th.
In another top-10 matchup, No. 9 Wilcox will travel to the south side of San Jose to play eighth-ranked Valley Christian in a traditional season opener.
