Rose doesn't belong back on School Board

Gov. Ron DeSantis recently appointed Karen Rose to the Sarasota County School Board after she lost re-election in 2024 to Liz Barker .

Rose will fill a vacancy left by Tim Enos, who resigned to become the district’s police chief.

While this appointment is legal under Florida law, it undermines the will of voters who chose to remove Rose less than a year ago.

DeSantis had endorsed Rose in the last election as part of his push for conservative control of school boards, and her return preserves a 3–2 conservative majority on the Sarasota County School Board.

Legally, the governor can appoint anyone to fill such vacancies, even those rejected by voters.
