RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) - A lack of rain over the past two weeks has yards, gardens and fields drying out quickly.

In the graphic below, the yellow and orange areas show a rain deficit over the last 2 weeks. Many of us have been virtually rain-free. Some areas (circled in red) are 3″ below average. The soil can dry out quickly this time of year and that appears to be happening.

Thankfully, we had lots of rain earlier this summer, especially in July, which was the 8th rainiest on record at RIC. That has allowed the rivers in Virginia to remain in good shape. The green dots indicate stream gauges that show above normal flow.
