Emma Stone feels "safe" and "as free as possible" working with her frequent collaborator Yorgos Lanthimos and his usual cast and crew. At the Venice Film Festival press conference for their latest film, Bugonia, on Thursday, the Oscar-winning actress explained why she can't stop working with the Greek filmmaker. "I love working with Yorgos. I love the material that he's drawn to and the worlds he wants to explore, and the characters that he's been generous enough to let me try my hand at," Stone said of their collaboration, before noting that she's not just reuniting with Lanthimos, but all his crew and his regular roster of actors. "With the exception of (screenwriter) Will (Tracy), we have all worked with Yorgos multiple times. One of the most amazing things about his process is that he invites the same (people)," she continued. "So what it ends up feeling like is a really comforting and safe environment to explore and feel as free as possible because you know these people. I know everybody says the 'we're a family' thing, but it does really feel like that when you've made so many things together and you've sort of been in those trenches together." Stone and Lanthimos first worked together on 2018's The Favourite and have since made the short film Bleat and the features Kinds of Kindness and Poor Things, for which the La La Land star won her second Oscar. In Bugonia, the English-language remake of South Korea's Save the Green Planet!, Stone plays a high-powered CEO who is kidnapped by two conspiracy theorists who are convinced she's an alien intent on destroying Earth. The actress described the film as "really fascinating and moving, funny and f**ked up, and alive". Bugonia will have its world premiere on Thursday ahead of a general release in October.
