SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) - The process of reporting a domestic abuser is more complicated than people may realize, so Shreveport city leaders are looking to simplify the state's requirements.
Currently, victims of domestic violence must complete a 17-page protective order form to seek legal protection.
City council unanimously approved a resolution that asks the Louisiana Supreme Court to rewrite the state's Uniform Abuse Prevention Order form.
Law enforcement and non-profits have said the form's length and complexity turn victims away by creating an unnecessary barrier.
Councilwoman Tabatha Taylor is sponsoring the resolution alongside councilman Jim Taliaferro and Grayson Boucher, who are seeking to reduce the form to no more than four pages.
