Homeland Security made a surprise visit to a Greensboro hotel Wednesday to check the immigration status of workers, but hotel managers sequestered staff and thwarted the effort, according to a statement by Siembra NC, an immigrant worker rights group.
The Greensboro-based Siembra NC, said in a post on its website that Homeland Security officials arrived at Springhill Suites Hotel at 6006 Landmark Boulevard at 11:30 a.m. to conduct a "surprise I-9 audit," a review of employee documents and payroll records, and interview workers.
"But the management did the right thing and asked the workers to stay in private areas and they didn't let agents do interviews,'' the Siembra NC statement said.
No arrests were made during the incident, according to Siembra NC, a group that dispatches legal aid
