(NewsNation) — The NASCAR Cup Series playoffs are set to begin this weekend at Darlington Raceway in South Carolina.

Starting with the Cook Out Southern 500 on Sunday, 16 drivers will be gunning for a shot at the championship title. The playoffs have been a part of NASCAR since 2004, with the current elimination-style tournament format starting in 2014. The sixteen drivers are pared down over three races until just four remain, with one final showdown deciding the champion.

Ahead of the races, NewsNation caught up with a few of the drivers, who said they're locked in.

"Playoff points, we're starting a little behind. To your point, we were last year too. It makes the road a little, a little bumpier to get there. But we can do it,” driver Joey Logano said.
