Shortly after a shooter fired through the windows of the Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Aug. 17, killing two children and wounding 17 others, the city's mayor Jacob Frey delivered an impassioned speech calling for more than “thoughts and prayers.”

Frey held back tears as he delivered the remarks during a news conference, speaking alongside Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara.

Frey later posted a clip of his speech on X , saying "words aren't enough."

"We have more guns in this country than people. We can't just say that this shouldn't happen again — and then allow it to happen again and again. We must act," he wrote.
