HIGH POINT, N.C. — A 16-year-old student was arrested Thursday after bringing a loaded gun to High Point Central High School , according to High Point police.
The student was taken into custody by a school resource officer after a staff member reported a gun on campus around 8:55 a.m. The school was briefly placed on lockdown to ensure safety.
Police said the student entered the building and walked through a weapon detection scanner, which alerted to his backpack. A search revealed a loaded gun wrapped in a sweatshirt.
The student was immediately detained and the weapon secured and officers said the gun was never displayed and no threats were made, police said.
