BRIDGEPORT, California (KOLO) - Mono County will break ground on a new jail project.

The official groundbreaking will take place on Sept. 2 for a new jail located on Twin Lakes Road in Bridgeport, California.

The county says the new jail is needed to replace the existing one, which they say is outdated.

A new jail will also help the county meet the requirements of Assembly Bill 109, which shifts the responsibility of incarcerating certain offenders from the state to the local level

The new facility will have around 50 beds and will include multiple housing units with dayrooms and a fully enclosed outdoor recreation space.
