COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Officials say a crash involving a Midlands police chief on Wednesday occurred while he was driving his police vehicle.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the wreck happened on South Beltline Boulevard just before 6:15 p.m. SCHP said a South Congaree police vehicle heading east crossed the center line and collided with a GMC Terrain.
Three people inside the GMC were taken to a hospital.
A spokesperson for the Town of South Congaree said Wednesday night that the town’s police chief, Steve Jonas, was involved in the crash. They also said Jonas was “transported for medical evaluation and care at a local hospital.”
Jonas is also on administrative leave as a result of the crash, with the town spokesperson noting it was part of standard protocol.
