PICO RIVERA, Calif. - Officials with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department were set to provide an update Thursday after 13-year-old Saith Toledo Mendez was shot and killed at a gas station in Pico Rivera over the weekend.

What we know:

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department investigators said the teen boy was waiting for his mother to finish her shift at the 76 gas station off Whittier and Rosemead boulevards when the shooting happened on Saturday, Aug. 23.

The suspect then ran away from the scene after pulling the trigger.

"We know from video surveillance that he ran west from the gas station and then in a northerly direction after that," Lt. Michael Modica of the LA County Sheriff's Department said.
