FARGO, N.D. (KFYR) - North Dakota State University said it’s been awarded $3.85 million to purchase an artificial intelligence supercomputer.

The AI computer will help perform cutting-edge research in various programs at the university and bolster the AI research that NDSU began several years ago.

NDSU said the AI supercomputer will be given the name Bison.

The funding comes from the National Science Foundation, and the program is set to be operational by summer 2026.

“This investment positions NDSU at the leading edge of AI and high-performance computing,” said NDSU President David Cook. “The Bison supercomputer will enable our faculty, staff and students to explore new frontiers of discovery and innovation, while deepening partnerships across North Dakota and beyond.
