WHITESIDE COUNTY, Ill. (WREX) — The Whiteside County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a 1,400 pound steer was stolen from a farm.

Sheriff John Booker announced in a press release Thursday morning that a farm in rural area between Morrison and Fulton had a 1,400 pound black steer stolen. Booker says the livestock was stolen in the last couple of days.

"The theft of livestock is not only a serious financial loss to our farmers, but it's a crime that impacts the backbone of our rural community," Booker said in the release. "We are committed to pursuing every lead to recover this steer and hold those responsible accountable."

Deputies are responding to the report, according to the Sheriff's Office, and will be searching the area and reviewing any surveillance footage that is availabl
