Stocks on Wall Street are relatively steady in morning trading Thursday, following new economic data and a mixed batch of earnings reports from big U.S. companies.

The S&P 500 slipped was 0.1% higher a day after climbing to a new high. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 85 points, or 0.2%, as of 11:12 a.m. Eastern time. The Nasdaq composite was 0.4% higher.
