Jefferson County’s rivalry matchup with Sevier County comes with even bigger stakes this fall — a chance to test itself against the defending state champions and current No. 1 team in Class 5A.
The Smoky Bears are fresh off their second state title in school history, and Patriots head coach Spencer Riley sees Friday’s clash as the perfect measuring stick for his 2025 squad.
“Always looking forward to the challenge,” Riley said. “We don't shy away from anybody. Never have, never will. It's going to be a great test for us. Give us a great opportunity to know where we stand going into our region season coming up. It’s a good measuring stick for us. Where do we stand against the best in 5A? Let’s see what we can do.”
