LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) reports that the state has seen a steady decrease in infectious syphilis diagnoses over the past three years, representing a 29% decline in reported cases overall since 2021.

This trend has continued throughout the first half of 2025, with Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties seeing the most dramatic decline.

Despite this, rates in Michigan remain "historically" high. Infection rates spiked between 2014 and 2021.
