COOK COUNTY, Ga. (WCTV) - The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) is bringing the Southern Nationals drag racing event to South Georgia, according to a press release from NHRA.

The Southern Nationals is set to be held May 1-3 at the South Georgia Motorsports Park.

South Georgia Motorsports Park (SGMP) owner Raul Torres said hosting an NHRA event would be an “economic catalyst.”

“One of the biggest reasons we decided to take on South Georgia Motorsports Park is because of the wonderful community that was a part of it,” Torres said.

“We’ve heard the calls of people and businesses who want to pitch in and help keep the dream of SGMP alive, but they only have a certain amount they can contribute.

Currently, the track is also holding a campaign called Legac
