ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) - A police dog from the Abilene Police Department (APD) is officially retiring.

Barco worked alongside Officer Cox and was credited with helping take drugs, guns, and money off the streets while assisting in hundreds of arrests.

According to the APD, Barco's career highlights include achieving a national ranking in narcotics detection in 2024 and contributing to the seizure of multiple kilos of drugs, 63 firearms, and over $30,000 in cash. He also uncovered digital evidence that led to arrests related to child exploitation and was instrumental in numerous drug investigations. Throughout his career, Barco assisted in a total of 621 arrests.

The department says Barco will now enjoy retirement with the Cox family, and a new K9 partner will be announced soon.
