QUINCY - Quincy Art Center will present the Joe Conover Retrospective, a celebration of the artistic achievements of area artist Joe Conover. The exhibit opens with a reception on Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a special artist talk at 6:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
Conover’s history is deeply woven into the Quincy area. A descendant of a pioneer Hancock County family, he grew up at Carter Hill farm in Walker Township, Hancock County. After graduating from the University of Illinois in 1958 with a degree in journalism and serving in the U.S. Army, Conover embarked on a distinguished career in journalism. He worked at The Herald-Whig for 33 years, serving as editor for 18 years before retiring in 2001.
