The Pine View boys and the Desert Hills girls were the respective varsity winners at the Southern Utah University high school cross-country championships on Saturday morning.
Staged on a 5,000-meter course at Cedar City’s Bicentennial Park, the meet attracted approximately 700 athletes from 22 area schools.
In the first race of the morning, the Pine View boys varsity team posted a dominant win by placing its top four runners in the top four spots. Winner Trevor Prior, runner-up Jaxon Bender, third-place finisher Benji Williams and fourth-place finisher Jake Saari all finished within 12 seconds of one another, led by Prior’s time of 15:42.11. Pine View’s fifth finisher was Benjamin Beitler, who took ninth place overall.
Those five runners gave the Panthers an impressive team score of 19
