GRAND FORKS — Charles "Chuck" Marcott has been named the new chief of the Grand Forks Fire Department.

Marcott, currently deputy fire chief for GFFD, was named by the city to replace Chief Gary Lorenz. Marcott's promotion was announced Thursday, Aug. 28.

Lorenz departed the agency earlier this summer to take the fire chief position in Fargo.

Marcott was selected after a nationwide search that resulted in two "true" external candidates and two other internal candidates, according to Mayor Brandon Bochenski. Interviews were held with four candidates on Monday and Tuesday, and "Chuck really rose to the top."

"All five of us (on the hiring committee) said he was the guy," Bochenski said.
