Chicago Police Supt. Larry Snelling said his department is preparing in the event National Guard troops deploy to Chicago, as President Donald Trump has repeatedly teased .
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, along with Snelling and other local leaders, held an audio-only briefing with reporters Thursday morning. Johnson said his administration has not had any communication with the White House regarding this matter.
"The National Guard, they do not have arresting authority or policing powers. They don't have that. Now, if there are federal agents that are arresting people -- the FBI, ATF -- those type of arrests happen throughout our country," Johnson said.
