State Assemblywoman Jessica González-Rojas, center, has partnered with other elected officials and community groups to give away 2,500 backpacks across her western Queens district through a series of recent events, her office said last Friday.

Giveaways were held in Astoria, East Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, Woodside and Corona, above. The lawmaker also contributed backpacks to Sleepy Da Barber’s BBQ Give Back Block Party in Jackson Heights, First Baptist Church of East Elmhurst, Moving Up Children Center in Corona and the Community Education Council for School District 30.

González-Rojas said in a statement that she is always grateful to help students start the school year, adding that the events also provided families with a safe space at a time when the area is facing immigration raids
