But he will not occupy a spot on the team’s 53-man roster .

Valdes-Scantling is ticketed to join the 49ers’ practice squad, league sources told NBC Sports Bay Area.

General manager John Lynch on Wednesday confirmed the acquisition Valdes-Scantling, which widely was reported earlier in the day, when he spoke about Jauan Jennings’ status with the 49ers .

“We're working to get the best mix out there,” Lynch said. “We added a piece today in MVS, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and we’re thrilled to have him part of it.”

Valdes-Scantling will join veteran receivers Robbie Chosen and Malik Turner, as well as rookie receiver Junior Bergen on the 49ers' practice squad.
