SAGINAW, MI — A former substitute teacher and coach at Birch Run Area Schools has tacitly accepted responsibility for sending illicit lewd messages to an underage student.

Alex J. Helm, 27, on Aug. 19 appeared before Saginaw County Circuit Judge Darnell Jackson and pleaded no contest to distributing sexually explicit matter to children and using a computer to commit a crime. Prosecutors agreed to dismiss a second charge of each count.
