SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KETK) -- The state has requested resources to assist a town in Central Texas, and Smith County Emergency Services District 2 is answering the call.

Officials said the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) Strike Team 169 was deployed on Thursday morning to help Smithville with wildfire prepositioning.

Smith County ESD2 has sent the following team members: • Lieutenant Justin Reed • Driver and Engineer Taylor Burns • Firefighter Ben VanWinkle • Firefighter Jamison Wright

Also, firefighters from the City of Tyler Fire Department, Longview Fire Department, Texarkana Fire Department and Nacogdoches Fire Department will be assigned to Strike Team 169.
