More than one year after becoming a wanted fugitive in Durham Region, a former NFL star was arrested in Georgia on Wednesday. Article content Article content

Retired defensive back Darryl “Buster” Skrine was booked on a total of 18 charges, including deposit account fraud, identity fraud, financial transaction card fraud, theft by taking, and criminal attempt to commit theft, according to police in Roswell, Ga.

The case in Canada over which he became a fugitive is unrelated.

Police allege that Skrine, 36, targeted three women, each located in a different U.S. state, through dating apps and asked them for money, claiming that he had financial issues and promising to repay them using his NFL annuity.
