HONOLULU (Island News) – A serious collision involving a moped and a police vehicle occurred Wednesday morning and resulted in a 25-year-old being hospitalized.

The collision occurred around 4 a.m. on Kapiolani Blvd near Pensacola St. in the Ala Moana area.

It was reported that a Honolulu Police Department (HPD) Officer was traveling southbound on Pensacola St. with blue lights and siren activated, when the Officer disregarded the red traffic signal at the Kapiolani Blvd intersection and collided into a 25-year-old man on a moped.

The moped driver was traveling eastbound on Kapiolani Blvd at the time of the collision and was then ejected into the roadway. He was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition.
