A Rochester police officer who happened upon an active shooting scene between two men on Weyl Street fired a single bullet to stop the shooter, striking him in the stomach, body-worn camera footage shows.

Rochester police said officers were investigating a stolen vehicle on Aug. 15 when they saw two men run across the neighborhood with "shots being fired amongst them." One of the officers followed the men into a Weyl Street backyard, where he found 48-year-old Lavar McKnight pinning another man to the ground and pistol-whipping him.
