MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has ordered the deployment of 20 state law enforcement officers to support public safety efforts in Minneapolis following a mass shooting at Annunciation Catholic School and Church on Wednesday.

The personnel will include 14 Minnesota State Patrol troopers and six Department of Natural Resources enforcement officers. Officers will focus patrol efforts around schools and places of worship across the city's five precincts.

"Students deserve to start the school year full of hope, excitement, maybe a little apprehension about what the year may bring," Walz said in the statement. "No child in America should go to school apprehensive of danger, of losing a classmate, of gunshots during prayer."
