GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The rear axle of a stolen vehicle was ripped off as police tried to stop it near Detroit Thursday morning, Michigan State Police say.
It happened around 7:30 a.m. on westbound I-96. Troopers patrolling the freeway in Detroit spotted a Chevrolet Cruze that had been reported as stolen, MSP said in a social media post.
After MSP followed the car into Livonia, the Livonia Police Department used a grappler device to try to stop it at Stark Road. As the driver tried to continue on, the rear axle was ripped off the car, police say.
Police say the driver, a 27-year-old man from Brighton, was arrested for possession of a stolen car and a probation violation warrant. His two female passengers were also arrested as they had "several" warrants from multiple jurisdiction
