All-Star Triangle Bowl's marquee shines again on Russell Street, marking another step in the effort to restore a place central to the struggle for civil rights in Orangeburg.
"This bowling alley is where sadness began but today we stand to bridge the gap," Orangeburg Mayor Michael Butler said at a lighting ceremony Monday.
"This is where healing is going to take place," he said.
Butler said the site will serve as "a beacon of justice, education and hope for generations to come."
Protesters sought to desegregate the whites-only bowling alley in February 1968.
