PORTAGE — A local police officer was allegedly injured by a 37-year-old Crown Point man being taken into custody on suspicion of intoxicated driving, according to the incident report.
Gelson Luis Pagan Torres was placed in leg restraints after allegedly kicking one of the officers in the chest and arm, the report says.
He is charged with battery causing bodily injury to a public safety officer, operating while intoxicated with a prior conviction within seven years, OWI endangering others, OWI, resisting law enforcement and disorderly conduct, records show.
Police say Pagan Torres' vehicle was stopped shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday at Central Avenue and Hamstrom Road, and that he was immediately uncooperative.
He allegedly resisted being placed into handcuffs and while being
