Plans for hotel on the Somerville-Cambridge line and bike path link survive halt at neighbor project

With construction of an adjacent life science building on hold and the shared driveway and parking that came with it, a proposed Marriott-brand hotel is shrinking, developers said Aug. 18.

Revised plans for what’s known as the Somerbridge hotel at 1 McGrath Highway – because it straddles the line between Somerville in the Inner Belt area and East Cambridge – have 25 percent fewer rooms, attorney Adam Dash said at a neighborhood meeting . The new design has 145 rooms, down from 199.

Somerbridge Hotel LLC received approval with conditions from Somerville in May 2023 and a special permit from Cambridge in July 2023 to put up a six-story hotel with a restaurant,
