LANSING, MI – The legal team for Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has responded to a series of charges spelled out in a lawsuit filed earlier this month by residents claiming they have been denied representation in Lansing because the governor has not called for a special election to fill their senate district seat.

In a response filed Thursday, Aug. 28, the governor’s legal team argued there is no legal basis for the claims made by several mid-Michigan residents who say their rights to representation are being violated. Whitmer’s legal team also argued the Michigan Court of Appeals “does not have the authority to compel the governor to act.”
