BOARDMAN, Ore. – A new community group has formed in West Glen, called West Glen United, and it hopes to provide a voice to the community as city officials attempt to secure clean water.

The region is facing a nitrate pollution problem. According to Oregon Rural Action, a grassroots nonprofit group in Eastern Oregon, Nitrate levels are considered unsafe in levels above 10 mg/L. They say that many of the wells in West Glen tested as high as 60 mg/L.

According to Oregon Rural Action, more than 100 members of West Glen United say that they have lost access to their wells, lost property values or felt negative health effects from the pollution.
