A fire that broke out late Wednesday night at an abandoned warehouse in Kaneohe has been classified as incendiary, the Honolulu Fire Department said.

The fire was reported around 10:57 p.m. Wednesday at 46-126 Kahuhipa Street. HFD responded with six units and 22 personnel, arriving at 11:07 p.m. to find smoke coming from the structure. Firefighters forced entry into the building and extinguished the flames by 11:08 p.m.

No injuries were reported. HFD investigators determined the fire originated near the front door, where an accelerant detection canine alerted to the presence of ignitable liquids. Damage to the building and its contents is estimated at $50,000.

The investigation remains ongoing. HFD reminds the public to ensure smoke alarms are installed and functioning in every building
