EAST PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - Central Illinois rallied behind this family several years ago, and now they’re seeking additional support to help pass a life-changing medication for Wonderful Wally.

Wally Bastian is a very outgoing seven-year-old who loves all things LEGO and Minecraft. It may not seem like it, but he lives with a rare mitochondrial disorder called Barth Syndrome , which sent him into cardiac arrest just after his first birthday.

The good news is that the young boy’s new heart has been pumping strongly since his successful heart transplant about six years ago. The bad news is that the Food and Drug Administration denied the third application for a medicine that could change Wally’s life.
