YOUNGSTOWN Detectives and the Mahoning County Coroner are investigating after a body was discovered near the Mahoning River in Youngstown.

According to police, the body of an as-yet-unidentified male was discovered early Thursday morning, not far from the B&O Station off Mahoning Avenue.

According to a police report, the body was found shortly before 1:30 a.m. Police say the man, whose identity has not yet been released, was lying on his right side with his face and chest face down clutching a case of beer.

Police say a witness originally thought the body was a black bag and she went to throw it away, but eventually realized it was a male who was cold to the touch.

Police said the witness had an idea of who the man might be, but police have not determined whose body this was. It is
