DOUGLAS, Mich. (WOOD) — The beloved Labor Day Bridge Walk returns will return for communities of Douglas and Saugatuck this year after a sudden, last-minute cancellation in 2024.
“When it didn’t happen, it was hard. So I really felt like it needed to make its return,” April Grundy, the new event organizer, said.
A new, extended route is planned to enhance safety measures for all.
“We just felt like it was maybe no longer safe, as the town grows, to have people gathering right on Blue Star (Highway) on the holiday weekend with lots of traffic in and out,” she said.
The event will start at Berry Field at 8 a.m. Walkers will then travel up Washington Street, under the Blue Star bridge and then across the bridge both ways before returning on the same route.
