The Wisconsin father-of-three accused of faking his own death and fleeing the country to be with another woman will spend the next 89 days in jail.

The number of days 45-year-old Ryan Borgwardt was sentenced to is significant, with 89 days the amount of time he was able to evade authorities after faking his own death.

The Associated Press reports Borgwardt initially pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge, but in a plea deal publicized this week, he pleaded "no contest" and agreed to pay $30,000 in restitution to law enforcement.

In August 2024, Borgwardt is accused of faking his own death while on a kayaking trip on Green Lake in Wisconsin.
