PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Department of Homeland Security fired back against allegations that an agent unfairly treated protesters outside a Portland ICE facility.

As previously reported by KOIN, U.S. Marine veteran Daryn Herzberg was tackled by federal agents while peacefully protesting. The incident was captured on video and shared widely on social media. KOIN reached out to both ICE and DHS for comment, but did not hear back in time for publication.

Late Wednesday, after another news outlet picked up the story, a senior DHS official provided the following statement by email:
