A Pontiac man who allegedly fired a gun at his girlfriend as she fled with her young child following an argument was released from custody on a personal bond after his arraignment Thursday on five felony charges.

Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard said the personal bond — which requires no cash or surety to be posted — is “absurd and unacceptable,” and another violation against the alleged victim.

“This was a dangerous act and violent act that could have ended in tragedy,” Sheriff Mike Bouchard stated in a news release. “Thanks to the swift actions of our deputies, the suspect was taken into custody, the weapon recovered and— most importantly — the victim and her child were unharmed. However, after being charged with five serious criminal counts, having a $1,000 personal bond is absurd
