It was the crash that launched a thousand quips online — and yes, it really happened. A driver collided with a driver examination centre in southwestern Ontario.

"I think they failed the test," said one person who shared the photo on Reddit.

"Probably still passed!" said another.

It happened just before 3 p.m. ET Wednesday at the DriveTest Driver Examination Centre on Lambton Mall Road in Sarnia.

Staff Sgt. Jim McCabe of the Sarnia Police Service said a driver, whom he described as an elderly woman, was attempting to park but her foot slipped off the brake onto the gas pedal "and unfortunately that vehicle accelerated into the building."

McCabe didn't know whether the driver had been returning from a test or not.
