'I'll remember this forever.' What it was like at state's first outdoor volleyball match

Carroll, Homestead met Wednesday night in the first IHSAA girls volleyball match played outdoors.

Gorgeous weather, rowdy student sections and high-level competition. It felt like a football Friday — only with a volleyball court at midfield.

FORT WAYNE – Pandy Sinish was admittedly unsure if they'd be able to pull it off: an outdoor high school volleyball match between her defending state champion Carroll Chargers and in-town rival Homestead.

The idea was pitched by a Homestead parent in July and was met with immediate support from the Carroll athletic department.
