One of the great hallmarks of the 2025 Orioles is not merely that they do things that are bad, but also that they do things that are stupid. The ninth inning of Thursday’s loss to the Red Sox symbolized this tendency, as Dylan Carlson, representing the tying run, led off the inning with a double, then got thrown out trying to go to third base on a ground ball to shortstop. Nobody else got on base, and the game ended in a 3-2 loss. This sealed the mop – a four-game sweep – of the Orioles by the Red Sox.

Any number of things in the game could have gone just a little bit differently and the Orioles might have won it. This, too, is a frequent frustration when considering the 2025 team. They get blown out a lot, and that’s not fun. Yet they also just have so many games that hinge on one or two
