A drawing for 150 anglers to catch an alligator gar over 48 inches opens on Sept. 1.

The prize is a permit to catch a large gar from a specific section of the Trinity River.

The drawing is part of a TPWD conservation effort, and winners will be notified by Oct. 15.

AUSTIN - An upcoming drawing by Texas Parks and Wildlife will give 150 anglers the chance to catch a quintessential Texas fish larger than is normally legal.

The Trinity River alligator gar drawing will allow the lucky few to attempt to catch "the fish of a lifetime" in a stretch of the river starting in Dallas.
