On Tuesday, Mobile voters sent mayoral candidates Spiro Cheriogotis and Barbara Drummond to a runoff, but one interesting takeaway from the election was the way former Mobile police chief Paul Prine — while placing a relatively distant third in the contest — still managed to second in so many precincts.
Approximately 41,245 of the Port City’s 157,823 registered voters — roughly 26 percent — participated in the municipal election that saw Cheriogotis and Drummond advance to a September runoff over Prine and Mobile County Commissioner Connie Hudson, according to numbers provided by the city of Mobile. Drummond led the way with 13,897 votes, followed by Cheriogotis with 11,389 votes, Prine with 8,186 votes and Hudson with 7,722 votes.
