BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - For the third straight year, community colleges statewide have seen an increase in enrollment for the fall semester.
According to the Maine Community College System, fall enrollment is up 3.2% with a total of nearly 1,600 students.
Officials say the colleges have added new programs and remote learning options.
They also note they have offered tuition-free college for recent high school grads.
The high school graduating class of 2025 will be the one that will be able to take advantage of that program as the legislature did not provide funding for future classes.
There are seven community colleges throughout Maine.
And, enrollment is also up this fall for the University of Maine System.
UMS says more than 25-thousand students are enrolled in its universities.
